Fire Division Apparatus Overview <br />•Original 2009 plan shifted replacement cycles so that new apparatus was <br />purchased every four-years <br />•This required some to be deferred up to five years <br />•Advancements in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards <br />necessitate replacement due to obsolescence and safety issues (i.e., three- <br />point safety harnesses for all seated positions, anti-lock brakes & engine <br />retarder to improve stopping abilities, lighting/visibility improvements, etc.) <br />•Minimal resale value for retired fire apparatus (example: $12,000 for former <br />Engine 494 replaced at cost of $550,000 for new unit)
