Lotter stated
staff would be working to move these vehicles to a private site.

Councilmember Burg commented she supported the purchase of the property at 581 Old Highway 8.

Councilmember Jacobsen stated it was in the City’s best interest to pursue the purchase of this property as it
was a key piece to this corridor.

Councilmember Dunsworth questioned how this property would benefit the City. S chlichting reported this
would depend on how the City utilized the parcel. Lotter explained the improved right-of-way and flow of
traffic could be the greatest benefit of acquiring this property.

Councilmember Burg commented it would benefit the City to have this extra right-of-way and greenspace.

Councilmember Allen supported the City pursuing this parcel for the extra greenspace and right-of-way.

Council consensus was to direct staff to pursue conversations with the property owner at 581 Old Highwa y 8.

Elections Whiteboard
Justin Templin provided the Council with a presentation on campaign finance and voting rules.

Lotter discussed how staff had separated City Code from the polling place location and reported staff had a
whiteboard video on elections for the Council to view.

Councilmember Burg stated she enjoyed the video but believed it was a bit long. She suggested a voice be
reading along with the video. Mr. Templin stated this could be done.

Councilmember Burg indicated she would like to see an updated fact sheet created. Lotter stated he would be
working on an updated FAQ.

Councilmember Dunsworth agreed the video should be shortened slightly.

Councilmember Allen asked that staff list the types of local elections that are held.

Mayor Johnson suggested changing local election to City official election and recommended school board
elections not be mentioned. Lotter explained the City manages the school district election at this time during
odd years and this would have to be changed to the County in the future if the City were to move to even year
elections.

Mayor Johnson commented she was not wild about the voter fatigue guy and recommended a visual be created
to show an increase in the number of voters.

Councilmember Jacobsen supported this recommendation.

Councilmember Allen recommended the video show the number of staff and volunteers that are needed to hold
an election. Lotter discussed how involved elections were getting and how this would become time consuming
if the City were to stay at odd year elections.
