She also noted a strategizing meeting would be held with Ryan Companies and <br />Colliers on Tuesday, February 6th. She explained that marketing strategies for Block <br />B would be ramped up in the coming year. <br />• A request that staff add a slide to the presentation stating which area within <br />NBE was Block B. <br />• A request that additional language be added to the presentation to address the <br />large number of happy homeowners that had been added to the City through <br />the Pulte development. <br />• The topic of affordable housing and lending requirements for housing units. <br />Gundlach anticipated the EDC would be addressing affordable housing <br />concepts through the redevelopment of the Korean Church. She reviewed the <br />recommendations made by the EDC to the Council and noted the Council <br />would be approving a Resolution on this topic next Tuesday. She explained <br />that in many cases affordable housing developments required a public subsidy <br />in order to be completed. She noted the Commission would be reviewing the <br />Housing and Redevelopment Chapters of the Comprehensive Plan in 2018. <br />• Whether or not the EDC would be meeting with Open to Business again to see <br />what services they have been providing to the community. Gundlach <br />explained a year-end report had been provided by Open to Business and noted <br />this data could be shared with the Council. <br />• Whether or not Open to Business was now working with all of Ramsey <br />County. Gundlach stated she would contact them to inquire further. <br />• A request that the presentation point out TÜV SÜD America Inc. as a major <br />business retention effort accomplished in 2017. <br />• A suggestion was made that the presentation more explicitly define business <br />retention and expansion that have been recommended by the Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />B. 2018 Work Plan <br />Gundlach reviewed the 2018 work plan with the Commission. She noted Block B <br />and the Korean Church would the EDC’s main focus in the coming year. She <br />explained staff would be working on soliciting for development interest of the Korean <br />Church property noting the EDC would be reviewing this document in February. <br />Discussion included: <br />• Whether or not staff monitoring of commercial space and vacancy rates would <br />help the City retain and assist businesses with finding space. Gundlach stated <br />she would work on this in order to have more real time data available to the <br />City and its businesses. <br />• Traffic concerns surrounding the Korean Church project. <br />• How the MNPASS project would impact the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Chair Zisla suggested a joint Planning Commission/EDC meeting be considered at <br />some point in the future to discuss the Korean Church. Commissioners appeared to <br />concur.
