2

2010. He is happy to have PREC back at City Hall. He encouraged the
Commission to bring forward issues that are in the forefront for ou r
community. There should be two-way relationship between this Commission
and the City Council.
Dec. 8 the Council held the Truth and Taxation hearing. There were 24
open meetings.
Dec. 12 the Council will approve the budget. The budget is on the
City website.
Council Member Strub thanked this Commission for their hard work at
Lions Park. The park is exceptional and the all accessible playground
is stunning.
Thanks for the hard work on the Eagles Nest and all the improvements
to the NBCC over the past several years.
High School students will be allowed to serve on each of our
commissions in 2018.
Would like to see “Open Streets” come to New Brighton
Some things residents would like to see are
o Organic waste recycling; increase in overall recycling
o Pollinate our parks or public spaces, purposeful pollinators;
bees and butterflies
o More public participation in the parks
o Would love to see free swim lessons for all kids in our
community; for anyone who wanted it.
Bring your ideas to the Council.
Be an advocate for Change for the Better (round up to nearest dollar).
Support the Dairy Queen on Old Hwy 8 for 10% give to Parks and Rec
Days.

Chair Fields thanked Council Member Strub for his service.

B. Chair Updates
None
C. Commission Reports on Parks
Driftwood: Johnson. So far park looks good.
Freedom: Brunell. The sliding hill was getting use after the snow. Good to
see.
Hansen: Fields. Looking really good. Still dirt and mud on paths from bike
race, hopefully will disappear as plow comes through after a snow. St ill
see Frisbee golfers and dog walkers. Commissioner Johnson commented
that he watched the cycle cross event and it was fun to see. Director Fink
commented that that group was nice to work with, they helped with
reseeding and will be back in the spring to help with any other issues. Left
a deposit, very respectful group.
Hidden Oaks: Quade. The park is tucked away. May want to get some “City
Park” signs out so people know it is back there. It’s a beautiful park.
Director Fink commented that as part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan,
signage, to enhance community, has come forward as a theme so it is
something that will be addressed in the future.
Innsbruck: Axberg. No report.
