Participants were able to experience a variety of safety technologies geared
towards helping seniors age in their own homes.
The 7 team, women’s volleyball league at Highview started their 3-week tournament.
208 group fitness participants worked on cardiovascular and strength exercises through a
variety of classes at the NBCC and Highview Pool.
Adults are slowing their heart rates and relaxing during the fly tying classes at the NBCC.
139 adults attended Pickleball open gyms that are offered at Highview Gym on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings.
PROTECTING NATURAL RESOURCES
Maintenance staff picked performed a buckthorn removal project at Brightwood Hills. The
project focused in areas along #5 between fairway and Silver Lake Road, and a small patch of
woods just north of #6 Tee box.
FOSTERING HEALTHY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
17 children participated in ice skating lessons at Freedom Park in February.
62 children ages 3-11 are learning jazz, tap and ballet routines for their dance performance in
April. The benefits of the automation will be the reduction in
energy needed to provide heat throughout the building, less wear and tear on the equipment
because of less use, a reduction in staff time to manually turn boilers on/off and that controls of
the HVAC system and the boilers are accessible in one place. The project will receive a rebate of
45% of the actual cost.
Punch list items have been completed on the Eagles Nest. This included the installation of foam,
re-anchoring play equipment to the floor and installing a spring to help automatically close the
Toddler gate after opening to offer greater security. Since opening on November 17, 29,155 youth admissions have
been sold.
Park and Recreation staff members are working closely with finance department to secure end
of the year account totals for the annual audit.
SUPPORTING COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT
The outdoor ice rink season concluded at Sunny Square and Hansen Parks following activity on
President’s Day, with Freedom Park lasting until February 25.
