Those benefits such as community building, economic development, <br />health and wellness, safety, human and cultural development, recreation experiences, <br />natural resource stewardship, etc. should be consistently portrayed in communications <br />within the City and to the public. Increasing awareness leads to advocacy and builds <br />constituency for parks, recreation, trails, and community improvements. <br />Objectives & Policies <br />The following are the objectives & policies relative to parks, recreation, and open space: <br />PR&OS 1.0 Improve the health of the community through <br />safe, convenient, and accessible facilities and <br />services for all <br />PR&OS 1.1 Support active living and wellness by maintaining and expanding <br />facilities and programming for all ages, abilities, and interest levels <br />PR&OS 1.2 Create a community pathway network between city parks, <br />neighborhoods, and community destinations <br />PR&OS 1.3 Develop strategies for broad participation and engagement in <br />recreation programs and use demographic data and neighborhood <br />surveys to tailor specific programs to an areas needs <br />PR&OS 1.4 Ensure safe recreational places through thoughtful design and <br />inclusive access <br />PR&OS 1.5 Promote the arts through programming, design, and building <br />connections with local artists <br />PR&OS 1.6 Create parks that reflect community interest by using community- <br />driven park planning processes to prioritize significant capital <br />improvements <br />PR&OS 1.7 Improve outreach and engagement to diverse populations and <br />minority groups <br />PR&OS 2.0 Protect natural resources through sustainable <br />policies and practices that preserve the <br />environment for future generations <br />PR&OS 2.1 Maintain a healthy urban forest and park system <br />PR&OS 2.2 Preserve existing open space and facilitate a greenway network <br />PR&OS 2.3 Foster environmental stewardship through educational programs <br />and as best practices for city facilities
