13 <br />VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency <br />management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency <br />Response Teams (CERT). <br /> <br />IX. TRAINING <br /> <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the <br />month. <br /> <br />On December 11, members of the Fire Division completed their annual medical <br />assessments and fitness screenings that are conducted per standards from the National <br />Fire Protection Association. Public Safety contracts with a healthcare provider that is <br />able to perform all of the testing and examinations on-site at the Public Safety Center. <br /> <br />Public Safety is pleased to report that all seven of our probationary firefighters <br />successfully passed their written examination for Firefighter 1 certification last Thursday. <br />The students must still complete the practical portion of the process, along with further <br />examinations in Hazardous Materials Operations and Firefighter 2, in the coming months. <br />They will also soon begin training by Allina Health to become certified as Emergency <br />Medical Responders in the State of Minnesota. <br /> <br />X. OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE <br /> <br />This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the <br />month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues. <br />And, this also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on <br />public safety related issues. <br /> <br />New Brighton has received its agency staffing plan for our mutual aid assistance to <br />Minneapolis Police during the 10 days of Super Bowl 52 activities. Seven of our officers <br />have been scheduled for a total of 336 hours of service. Council previously approved the <br />agreement at its August 22nd meeting which provides for reimbursement of these hours <br />or service provided to the City of Minneapolis. <br /> <br />The Fire Division Captains Academy came to a close this month. The Captains Academy <br />was a three-month, intensive, internal training program for current Fire Captains along <br />with those who would like to pursue a leadership role in the department. The topics <br />included training in leadership, small equipment operation, fire attack tactics, small group <br />instruction, incident command system, role of an officer, and several other leadership <br />development topics. The Captains Academy was coordinated by Deputy Fire Chief Brad <br />Krebsbach. <br /> <br />Director Paetznick participated in the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association critical <br />issues forum on Law Enforcement Solutions to the Mental Health Crisis, that featured <br />KSTP 5 News meteorologist Ken Barlow who shared his own perspective on living with
