10

Police, Fire, and Emergency Management services are provided by the City’s Public Safety Department with 29 sworn
peace officers, 9 civilian employees, and 42 paid-on-call firefighters. Resident engagement and public education are
foundational parts of the agency’s proactive and preventative approach to delivering law enforcement and firefighting
services. Public Safety volunteer groups, including the Police Reserve Auxiliary, Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS),
and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members donate more than six hours of service daily to the depart-
ment. Neighborhood engagement though crime watch groups and an active social media presence leverage the power of
citizens to protect the community. Public Safety is known for its award winning services, including four first-place fin-
ishes for National Night Out (NNO), two International Association of Chiefs of Police Association (IACP) Community
Policing Awards, and most recently the International Fire Department of the Year Award.
