22 <br /> <br />FINANCE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />The Finance Department provides accounting services for all city departments and administers the payroll sys- <br />tem. The Finance Department is responsible for reporting and managing the fiscal affairs of the City of New <br />Brighton and is committed to generating reliable financial information that is in accordance with generally ac- <br />cepted accounting principles. This department also handles revenue collections, disbursements, investments, <br />utility billing, preparation of the annual budget and financial statements of the city. The Finance Department <br />consists of a Finance Director, Assistant Finance Director, Accountant II, Accountant I, Accounting Techni- <br />cian, and four License Bureau Clerks. <br /> <br />The Finance Department is responsible for the following areas: <br /> Providing accounting services for all City departments. <br /> Administering payroll and payroll related activities. <br /> Facilitating the process to prepare the annual budget for Council approval. <br /> Performing cash management duties, including maintaining the City’s investment portfolio. <br /> Performing debt management responsibilities. <br /> Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and utility billing. <br /> Recommending and implementing internal controls. <br /> Maintaining risk management activities, including the procurement of insurance. <br /> Administering long-term financial planning and objectives for the City, including capital budgeting <br />and reserves. <br /> <br />PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />The Public Safety Department (police and fire) enforces federal, state and municipal laws within the City. The <br />Public Safety Department also responds to medical emergencies, fire emergencies, accidents, animal control <br />calls, theft, damage to property, and alarm responses. The Public Safety Department is responsible for provid- <br />ing public education, crime prevention programming, emergency preparedness programming and community <br />orientated police work. The Director of Public Safety is assisted by two Deputy Directors, Police Sergeants, <br />Detectives, Patrol Officers, Public Safety Officers, two Deputy Fire Chiefs, Fire Captains, Paid On -Call Fire- <br />fighters, Office Supervisor and Office Assistants. <br /> <br />Services and/or programs offered by the New Brighton Public Safety Department include but are not limited <br />to: <br /> National Night Out <br /> Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) <br /> Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> Neighborhood Watch <br /> School Resource Officers <br /> Police Explorers <br /> Police Reserves <br /> Crime Prevention Programs <br /> Neighborhood Orientated Policing (NOP) <br /> Crime Free Multi-Housing <br /> <br />
