14
New Brighton in May 2014. Officer Supervisor Julie Forbord and Detective Mike
Lochen are working on our agency’s response to the request.

Over the past month the Fire Division lost 65 years of experience due to the retirements
of Firefighter Arne Bona (33 years) and Firefighter Dave Cameron (32 years). Thank you
Arne and Dave for your service and commitment!!

On Thursday, July 12th, Deputy Director Dan Olson joined members of the Sudden
Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Survivors and the family of Wendell “Skip” Mogren for a
memorial event at Cub Foods. A couple months into retirement, Skip was shopping in
aisle 15 of Cub Foods New Brighton when he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest on
May 11, 2006. Thanks to the initial lifesaving efforts of a store employee who started
CPR and the response by Dan Olson, Matt Voeller, and Matthew DeBoer who used an
AED, they successfully brought Skip back to life. As a result of this incident, and thanks
to a partnership with the Heart Safe Communities program of Allina Health, Cub Foods
soon deployed 77 AEDs in their grocery stores throughout the region and trained at least
five employees in CPR at each location. Sadly, Skip passed away earlier this year on
February 28th.
