A key implementation strategy is to update the <br />city’s park system plan. Key components of this process will <br />include: <br />1. An inclusive community engagement process <br />2. An updated inventory of existing park facilities and <br />conditions and identification of <br />gaps in the system preventing the city of having parks within <br />walking distance of <br />100% of New Brighton Households. <br />3. A system wide vision, needs assessment, and evaluation <br />4. A park specific vision and key recommendations <br />5. An implementation plan for specific park master planning <br />and system improvements <br />including general costs, funding sources, and priority/time <br />Enhance Copy and <br />replace to <br />enhance <br />language <br />already in <br />plan. An implementation plan for specific park master planning <br />and system improvements including general costs, funding <br />sources, and priority/time frame. <br />Enhancement made <br />Parks 72 Park Improvements <br />Community members have indicated an interest in improving <br />aging park facilities and <br />in adding the features such as the following to the New <br />Brighton park system: <br />» Dog Park <br />» Splash pad/interactive fountain <br />» Winter programming, such as cross-country ski rentals, <br />sledding, and ice rinks <br />» More programming focused on seniors <br />No Change N/A N/A N/A <br />Parks 73 Trail Connections <br />The addition of trails will help shape community reinvestment <br />and build vitality. Interstate highways 35W and 694 bisect New <br />Brighton and tend to separate the City and neighborhoods. <br />They also fragment community identity and present challenges <br />to walk-ability and trail connections. Opportunities to <br />strengthen the bridges over or under regional transportation <br />corridors should continue to be a priority in future park and <br />trail system planning efforts. The addition of signature features <br />in parks (park signs and city park and trail system maps) can <br />No Change N/A N/A N/A <br />Parks 73 A system of greenways along natural water ways and choice <br />roads would help connect not only the parks and <br />neighborhoods within New Brighton, but could also serve to <br />connect the city to regional trails and the robust trail system of <br />Minneapolis and St. Paul.
