IntroductionDRAFT 1-3 <br />pLaNNING prOCeSS <br />The 2040 Comprehensive Plan planning process extended for more than a year and <br />involved numerous elected and appointed officials, as well as the general community. <br />The process was overseen by the Planning Commission. The planning process was <br />organized into the following phases: <br />A full description of Community <br />Engagement Approaches can be <br />found in “Appendix A. Community <br />Engagement Plan”, and all <br />collected responses are recorded <br />in “Appendix B. Community <br />Engagement Results”. <br />What We heard... <br />""throughout <br />this document <br />you’ll find quotes <br />from community <br />members about <br />the city’s future <br />Phase 1: Launch <br />This phase focused on start-up activities to organize the comprehensive planning <br />process, and understand the context of New Brighton’s history and where it is today. <br />The community engagement approach for this phase was “Inform & Listen” focusing <br />outreach efforts on helping educate about the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and solicit <br />input on community likes, needs, and concerns. This first phase involved the use of the <br />Social Pinpoint website and two community workshops. <br />Phase 2: Explore <br />This phase built on the information from Phase 1 to identify potential directions <br />for future land use, redevelopment, transportation, and parks and trails to develop <br />concepts for changes within the city and “idea cards” for future actions. These <br />elements were then presented to the public for input during this phase’s community <br />engagement approach: “Consult & Collaborate.” <br />Phase 3: Confirm <br />For this phase, the consulting team used the direction gleaned from previous phases <br />to write, update, and assemble the Comprehensive Plan draft. Then the draft was <br />prepared for formal review, approval, and adoption. Community Engagement for this <br />phase is “Seek Approvals” through official public comment.
