Mayor Johnson reported the City's Open House would be held on Saturday, May 5t". She explained the City's
water, elections, and the Korean Church would be discussed at this event.
Councilmember Jacobsen recommended the I35W MnPASS project be discussed at the Open House along
with the impact of switching back to New Brighton water.
Councilmember Jacobsen commented he was in favor of the City Council holding additional neighborhood
meetings. He suggested the Council consider holding four neighborhood meetings each year, one per quarter.
He stated he was in favor of these meetings being recorded.
Councilmember Burg supported the meetings being recorded for the public to view.
Mayor Johnson feared that if the meetings were recorded some people may opt to not attend in lieu of
watching the meeting at home. He explained staff could investigate additional neighborhood meetings once
additional IT staff was brought on board. She commented the Council could consider holding a more casual
meeting, as was done at Vermont Park several years ago.
Councilmember Burg stated she was in favor of the Council holding casual neighborhood meetings at
Sunnyside Park and Totem Park. She suggested these meetings have minimal staff members in attendance.
Councilmember Jacobsen and Mayor Johnson supported the Council pursuing this further.
Councilmember Allen stated he was also in favor of holding additional neighborhood meetings as proposed by
Councilmember Burg.
Councilmember Burg suggested the neighborhood park events be held in June and September. She asked how
notices were handled last time. Lotter noted staff sent postcards regarding the event that was held at Vermont
Park.
The Council agreed to hold a neighborhood meeting mid-June at Totem Park with another meeting held at
Sunnyside Park in mid-September.
Councilmember Allen commented he received several complaints regarding the potholes along Sixth Street.
Lotter indicated staff would get to these when the plants open this spring.
Mayor Johnson indicated it was not appropriate for the public to tag City Councilmembers or the Mayor on
Facebook in order to bring attention to matters like these. She encouraged the Council to ask the public to
contact City Hall directly with their concerns. Lotter commented if the Council were to respond this could
create an expectation from the public. He noted the best option would be to encourage the public to contact
City Hall or the Public Works Department.
Lotter reviewed the City's website and noted a resident has requested easier access to City meetings. He
proposed adding several new links to the website in order to make the site more user friendly. He indicated the
website would continue to evolve over the coming months and noted the additional IT staff would help in
improving the user experience. The Council supported phone numbers being placed on the website for the
Parks Department and the non -emergency Police Department line.
Worksession adjourned at 6:13 pm
