Lotter stated at the request of City Council, staff has prepared a brief PowerPoint to discuss possible next steps
for creating a City logo. The time to decide is limited based on MnPASS lanes being under construction in
2019, where New Brighton will receive two sound walls. MnDOT will include the City logo on these walls and
MnDOT will give the City until August 1, 2018 to change the current logo design for the walls. Additionally,
in late summer of 2018, a new billboard will be constructed at the NBCC, and this billboard will have
opportunities to add our logo as part of a city gateway theme. Monument signage, park signs, street signs and
banners, clothing, vehicle decals and tower painting all include our current logo or no logo at all. Staff
proposes we work with a crowdsource procurement process to enable these signature features in our City to get
a fresh look as we move towards creating a stronger sense of place in the community.
Schlichting reviewed the proposed branding that would be placed on the MnPASS sound wall. He commented
on several new logos with the Council and requested feedback on how to proceed with rebranding the City. He
described several different ways the City could pursue a new logo or logo options.
Mayor Johnson reported she has used 99 Designs in the past and has had great success. She supported the City
spending $1800 for consulting services with 99 Designs in order to create a brand that would assist in
rebranding New Brighton.
Councilmember Dunsworth also supported the City consulting with 99 Designs for potential logo options. She
anticipated that 99 Designs could assist the City in meeting. an August 1St deadline with 1vinDOT.
Councilmember Allen agreed.
Councilmember Burg supported the City using 99 Designs, but she also believed the City Council and staff
could also have good ideas.
Mayor Johnson concurred and encouraged residents of New Brighton to submit their logo ideas with City Hall.
Councilmember Dunsworth stated she would like to see the public involved through some sort of community
engagement process with respect to the rebranding. Lotter commented an online survey tool could be used to
gather feedback from the public regarding proposed logos for the City.
Councilmember Dunsworth asked how old the City's current logo was. Mayor Johnson anticipated the logo
was created under Mayor Benke.
Councilmember Dunsworth stated it would greatly benefit the City to have a recognizable logo that created a
stronger identity for New Brighton.
Mayor Johnson commented it would be her hope to identify the new logo at Stockyard Days in August of
2018.
Councilmember Jacobsen supported the City pursuing logo designs from 99 Designs and also supported the
City using the online survey technology to assist the City with gather feedback from the public. Lotter
reported the City would only pay $1500 to use the online survey option for the remainder of 2018.
Worksession adjourned at 6:28 pm
Respectfully submittedkerk
Terri Spa g ud
