Livesaving Award. <br />City Manager Lotter reported Public Safety Director Paetznick would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick stated on December 18, 2017 around 11:28 pm, New Brighton <br />resident Steven Fedor suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in his home. His wife witnessed the <br />event and immediately began CPR while her son Brandon Fury dialed 911. Allina EMS <br />Dispatcher Russell Shields provided pre -arrival instructions to the family until Officers Ian <br />Craig and Cody Amberg arrived with an AED, which delivered a shock to the victim. Soon <br />joined by Sergeant Ed Sypniewski and PSO Dave Cameron, they continued with chest <br />compressions and rescue breathing until Allina Paramedic McKinzie Flynn and EMT Meagan <br />Cheney began advanced lifesaving measures. Steven regained a pulse and they transported him <br />to Mercy Hospital where he made a full recovery. Teresa credits the public CPR education <br />provided to her by retired Officer Kathy McNeely as instrumental in this outcome. For these <br />actions, the New Brighton Department of Public Safety recognizes Sergeant Ed Sypniewski, <br />Officers Ian Craig and Cody Amberg, Public Safety Officer Dave Cameron, Paramedic <br />McKinzie Flynn, EMT Meagan Cheney, Dispatcher Russell Shields, along with community <br />members Teresa Fedor and Brandon Fury with the New Brighton Department of Public Safety <br />Lifesaving Award this 12th day of June, 2018. A round of applause was offered by all in <br />attendance. <br />Dr. Charles Lick congratulated the New Brighton Public Safety Department for their efforts. <br />He stated he was proud to report the survival rate of a sudden cardiac arrest reached an all-time <br />high in 2017. <br />Steven Fedor thanked the Police Officers for all that they did to help him. <br />Teresa Fedor thanked the City Council for holding a lifesaving award ceremony and providing <br />her an opportunity to formally thank all who were involved in saving her husband's life last <br />December. She thanked her son for assisting her through this and for having great courage in <br />dialing 911 during this emergency. She thanked all who checked in on Steve during his <br />recovery. She stated she was honored to have been served by the New Brighton Public Safety <br />Department who were all her lucky stars. She thanked Kathy McNeely for being a great <br />resource to the community. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked all of the men and women who serve the community well as EMT's, <br />fire personnel and as Police Officers. <br />Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Fill the Boot Proclamation. <br />City Manager Lotter reported Public Safety Director Paetznick would be presenting this item to the City <br />Council. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick stated this year's New Brighton Fill the Boot campaign officially <br />begins June 26th. New Brighton Firefighters volunteering their time with boots in hand will <br />greet motorists on the street, asking them to make a donation in support of MDA's mission to <br />free individuals from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle -debilitating <br />diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life. Funds raised through 2018 <br />New Brighton Fill the Boot drive help MDA's efforts to fund groundbreaking research and <br />life -enhancing programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including <br />the MDA Care Center at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and Gillette Children's <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br />2.
