Paetznick explained he has been working on the 2019 budget. He reviewed several changes the Fire Division <br />was proposing to make to its fleet. He discussed the history of the Fire Division and described the growing <br />repair costs for the department's vehicles. He commented on how the height of buildings within the <br />community have increased over time and how a new fire truck would improve safety. He described how the <br />Fire Division has worked to lower the City's ISO through improved dispatching services and department <br />training. He noted two trucks were in need of replacement. He discussed the proposed changes and how they <br />would impact the Fire Division. The lead time needed for the new trucks was reviewed with the Council. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked when the next purchase was scheduled after these two trucks were purchased. <br />Paetznick stated this would be in 2025. <br />Mayor Johnson questioned if the City would be purchasing the right truck if a 10 -story hotel were to be <br />constructed on NBE. Deputy Director Olson stated there was no ladder truck that could reach 10 stories high. <br />He commented the larger ladder trucks would not work in this community. He explained the proposed truck <br />meets the needs of the community and the way the Fire Division works. <br />Councilmember Burg requested further information on the fire rigs the neighboring communities have. <br />Paetznick discussed the rigs that were owned by the neighboring communities Fire Departments and how this <br />benefits the City of New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen commented on the amount of money the City saved by purchasing the last fire truck <br />through HJC.
