He stated for the most part this project was now complete. He noted the only work that remained <br />was the trails on the east side of the park, which had to be raised. He commented on the differences between a <br />2 -year, 10 -year and 100 -year storm event and described how the park would be impacted by these different <br />rain events. He discussed the pre and post elevation conditions of the park. He reported staff would be <br />working further to remove the homes that were taken out of the flood plain. <br />Mayor Johnson asked what the turbine was in the park. Schlichting explained this piece of equipment was a <br />30 -inch pipe that pumps water to adjacent basins that bypass the dam. <br />Councilmember Burg requested further information on how the eastern pathway elevations would change. <br />Schlichting discussed the elevation for the eastern pathways and noted gravel was put down on the pathways. <br />He described how the elevation of these trails would be increased next spring. <br />Mayor Johnson reported the Watershed District was a finalist for an award based on the improvements made to <br />Hansen Park. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen stated he was impressed by the number of people biking through Hansen Park. <br />Mayor Johnson understood this project became long and drawn out, but stated the long-term benefits would <br />serve New Brighton residents well. <br />581 Old Highway 8 <br />Schlichting reviewed the proposed plans for the old New Brighton Elementary School and noted there was a <br />piece of land for sale at 581 Old Highway 8. He explained the property owner was interested in selling to the <br />City and reported this parcel could be included in the proposed TIF district. He stated there were some access <br />issues along Old Highway 8 that would have to be addressed by the County. He reviewed a large map of the <br />corridor with the Council and stated he had discussed Old Highway 8 becoming a three -lane roadway with the <br />County. He stated the property sold for $275,000 this spring and noted the buyer was willing to sell for <br />$310,000. He requested feedback from the Council on how to proceed with this property. <br />
