Consider n uthonzilt iun to Purchase a Rosenbauer 78' Viper Aerial to replace 1997 General <br />Telesqurt 65' Aerial. <br />Motion by Councilmember Dunsworth, seconded by Councilmember Allen to Authorize Purchase <br />of a Rosenbauer 78' Viper Aerial. <br />City Manager Lotter indicated Public Safety Director Pawnick would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick commented on the City's Fleet plan and explained Public Safety is <br />recommending replacement of the Fire Division's 1997 65' Telesqurt Aerial device (unit <br />A498) as it has already been deferred beyond its original 20 -year lifecycle and has been <br />experiencing increasing maintenance and repair costs in recent years. A498 is the workhorse of <br />the fleet, responding as the first -due apparatus to all structure -related fires and alarms. The <br />proposed replacement design maximizes ladder reach for larger and taller buildings constructed <br />in the city while maintaining a maneuverable single -axle wheelbase to respond to existing <br />properties, especially older multi -family housing. He described how the City has changed since <br />1997 and how the new fire truck would improve fire safety for the community. It was noted <br />construction of the new unit will take approximately 395 days (13 months) and payments <br />would not begin until 2019. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Public Safety Director Paetznick for doing his due diligence <br />on this purchase while not compromising the safety of the community. Further discussion <br />ensued regarding the versatility of the aerial truck and the types of calls this truck responded <br />to. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen requested further information regarding the maintenance costs for <br />these fire trucks. Public Safety Director 11act7mck commented the first ten yews the maintenance costs <br />were quite low but the next 10 years maintenance costs would increase. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth reported the Public Safety Commission received a presentation on the Fire <br />Division and its fleet. She stated she was impressed by the amount of thought, time and effort that went into <br />the Fire Division's fleet replacement plan. <br />Acting Mayor Burg thanked the Fire Division for their planning efforts and stated she was pleased the City <br />had planned so well for these purchases by having cash on hand for the new fire trucks. Consider AUtllori ,ation to Purchase a Rosenbauer Ford F-350 Mini -Rescue to replace 1993 <br />General Fire Engine. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Allen to Authorize Purchase of <br />a Rosenbauer Ford F-350 Mini -Rescue. <br />City Manager Lotter indicated Public Safety Director Paetznick would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Public Safety DirectorPaetznick explained Public Safety is recommending replacement of the Fire <br />Division's 1993 General Fire Engine (unit E495) as it has already been deferred five years <br />beyond its original 20 -year lifecycle. E495 is non-compliant with current National Fire <br />Protection Association (NFPA) apparatus standards and lacks modern safety features to protect <br />firefighters. Due to participation in the Ramsey County Closest -Unit Dispatching Protocols, <br />New Brighton can downgrade its overall fleet by one engine to the proposed mini -rescue while <br />maintaining its current Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 3 rating.
