16
Housing Programs
Identify and develop housing programs and initiatives aimed at maintenance and modernization of the
community’s existing single family and multi-family housing stock

RESULTS

There have been no changes to the City’s existing programs. We will continue to perform building
inspections, multi-family housing licensing, nuisance and complaint enforcement, housing code
compliance and physical redevelopment efforts that result in new housing.

INTERPRETATION

Means to measure success under this initiative are still being discussed by the EDC. Because the EDC is
recommending continued support of existing programs, it’s likely progress measurement will include
residential market values studies, conducted periodically, which break down market value growth or
decline based on the following housing types: 1) single family, 2) two family, 3) multi- family. These
studies have been used in the past and have provided valuable information regarding New Brighton’s
overall housing health.

RESPONSE

A new Housing Chapter for the 2040 Comprehensive Plan was completed and finalized along with land use plans that will
guide multiple areas of the community for mixed use development. This in turn will result in more housing projects over the
next ten years.
