<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />January 22, 2019 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Acting Mayor Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Emily Dunsworth <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br /> <br />Absent: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Devin Massopust, Dean Lotter <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: Nasreen Fynewever, Tim McQuillan <br /> <br />ICTF Presentation <br />Massopust reported Nasreen Fynewever was in attendance to give the Council a presentation on the work <br />completed by the Inclusive Community Task Force. <br /> <br />Nasreen Fynewever, Chair of ICTF, thanked the Council for their time. She explained the ICTF was formed <br />after the Council passed a Resolution in October 2017. She reported the Council was interested in learning <br />what they didn’t already know. She discussed how task force members were selected and noted this group was <br />tasked with finding ways to make the City more inclusive. She provided further comment on the six Council <br />directives. She reviewed the learning activities the group went through and described how the community was <br />broken down into sectors. She described how each member of the task force explored these sectors. She <br />commented further on the report that was drafted by the IC TF describing the recommendations from the task <br />force in detail. It was noted the group was recommending the City Council allow the task force to continue. <br />She explained race relations were not deeply discussed and could be delved into further by the task force. <br /> <br />Acting Mayor Burg thanked Ms. Fynewever for all of her hard work with the task force and for the thorough <br />report. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth thanked Ms. Fynewever and the task force members for all of their efforts. She <br />questioned how the Council could find more diverse individuals to participate in this group. Ms. Fynewever <br />suggested the Council refer to the contact list for potential candidates. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen thanked the task force for all of their efforts. He stated he was very pleased by the <br />recommendations that were made by the group and supported the Council discussing these further. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the task force explored how other cities managed their task force groups. <br />Ms. Fynewever explained some cities had human rights commissions, while others has a task force with an <br />assigned staff member. She recommended New Brighton have a task force with an assigned staff member. <br /> <br />Tim McQuillan, ICTF member, stated it would be important for the Council to consider, if this group were t o <br />move forward, that the City seek the right diverse people for this task force. <br />
