“Recreation is not a secondary concern for a democracy. It is a primary concern, for the kind of recreation a people make for themselves
determines the kind of people they become and the kind of society they build.” - Harry Allen Overstreet

Charles Warner

New Brighton, MN 55112

Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Terri Spangrud, City Clerk
City of New Brighton
803 Old Highway 8 NW
New Brighton, MN 55112

Re: Letter of Interest for Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission

To Whom It May Concern,

This letter of interest is for the position for the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission. One of my
passions has always involved promoting and living an active and healthy lifestyle. I have used this passion in both
my professional and personal life. Since moving to New Brighton in Spring of 2017, my three young boys ages 7, 4,
and 1 and I have used the various parks, activity programs, Eagles Nest and Community Center to engage with our
neighbors and community. I believe that serving on the Parks, Recreation and Environmental commission is an
excellent opportunity to utilize my passion and experience to positively impact that lives of all those who live and visit
New Brighton.

The professional experiences I have acquired over the past 20 years as a participant-based event promoter, nonprofit
founder, college athletic administrator and marketing director provide a wide platform for engaging with the
commission. From navigating city, county, state and federal permitting processes to building consensus among
stakeholders including strong neighborhood groups, private business and city councils, my experience in handling a
variety of interests will be useful as a commissioner. The breadth of my experience allows me to consider programs
from varying perspectives including safety and risk management, diversity and inclusion, accessibility and operational
feasibility.

I have a strong desire to see New Brighton build upon its current programs and continue to add to the quality
accessible programs that enhance of life to citizens both young and old. As New Brighton welcome new residents
like myself, its Parks and Recreation department should adjust new plans to more people into the active and engaged
and grow the sense of community. As a commissioner, I look forward to working toward creating and supporting
programs that engage diverse populations and continuing to build our community.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing my experience and interest in serving the
commission and greater community at-large.

In good health,

Charles Warner
