She explained this has given her a great deal of perspective over the
years.

Councilmember Allen asked what the most important responsibilities a commission member had to the
community.

Ms. Kitzhaber stated showing up and being active in meetings would be important. In addition, she would
work to represent the City and the Commission. She would speak highly of the group and not be putting the
Council down.

Mayor Johnson asked how she would respond if a member of the community were to contact her expressing
opposition to an item being addressed by your commission.

Ms. Kitzhaber commented she would hear them out and the reasons for the concern. She explained she did
not have a great sense of community on her street and believed that being on a commission would help her
build community.

Mayor Johnson asked if she was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility; economic
programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of public
safety.

Ms. Kitzhaber commented she was most interested in public safety. She noted she would also be interested in
parks and recreation.

Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member
appointments. She thanked Ms. Kitzhaber for her interest in serving and asked if she had any questions.

Ms. Kitzhaber asked how much time was required outside of the meetings.

Councilmember Jacobsen commented this depended on the engagement levels of the commission members. He
indicated meeting attendance, National Night Out and several Open Houses were activities of the Public Safety
