Proclamation CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON WHEREAS this year marks the centennial of Beisswenger’s Hardware and Power Equipment, a second generation business with Mark Beisswenger as owner; and WHEREAS long before New Brighton became a city, Jacob and Caroline Beisswenger and their family settled in the area and in 1919 they began to sell their wares at a small market stand before purchasing an old building and setting up shop; and WHEREAS over the years what started as a hardware and grocery store has adapted to the needs of the community changing their original business products to furniture to appliances to a gift shop and now back to Hardware and power equipment; and WHEREAS over the years, Beisswenger’s Hardware and Power Equipment has seen the City of New Brighton grow from a small Village of 368 residents to a City of approximately 22,787 resident; and WHEREAS Beisswenger’s has served New Brighton residents through their transition to motor vehicles from horses and street cars; through the mini “gold rush” along the eastern shore of Long Lake in the 1920s; through the Armistice Day blizzard of 1941; through the housing boom of the 1950s and 1960s; through the conversion of the Village of New Brighton to the City of New Brighton in 1974; and, through an untold number of landscaping projects, planting seasons and home repair projects; NOW, THEREFORE I, VALERIE JOHNSON, Mayor of The City of New Brighton, Minnesota congratulate Beisswenger’s on their 100-year milestone and do hereby proclaim June 8, 2019: Beisswenger’s Hardware and Power Equipment Day in the City of New Brighton.
