Proclamation <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS this year marks the centennial of Beisswenger’s Hardware and Power Equipment, a <br />second generation business with Mark Beisswenger as owner; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS long before New Brighton became a city, Jacob and Caroline Beisswenger and their <br />family settled in the area and in 1919 they began to sell their wares at a small market <br />stand before purchasing an old building and setting up shop; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS over the years what started as a hardware and grocery store has adapted to the needs of <br />the community changing their original business products to furniture to appliances to <br />a gift shop and now back to Hardware and power equipment; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS over the years, Beisswenger’s Hardware and Power Equipment has seen the City of <br />New Brighton grow from a small Village of 368 residents to a City of approximately <br />22,787 resident; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS Beisswenger’s has served New Brighton residents through their transition to motor <br />vehicles from horses and street cars; through the mini “gold rush” along the eastern <br />shore of Long Lake in the 1920s; through the Armistice Day blizzard of 1941; through <br />the housing boom of the 1950s and 1960s; through the conversion of the Village of <br />New Brighton to the City of New Brighton in 1974; and, through an untold number of <br />landscaping projects, planting seasons and home repair projects; <br /> <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE I, VALERIE JOHNSON, Mayor of The City of New Brighton, Minnesota <br />congratulate Beisswenger’s on their 100-year milestone and do hereby proclaim June 8, 2019: <br /> <br />Beisswenger’s Hardware and <br />Power Equipment Day <br /> <br />in the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Seal of the City of New Brighton, <br />Minnesota to be affixed this 28th day of May, 2018. <br /> <br /> <br /> VALERIE JOHNSON – MAYOR
