<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Proclamation Designating June 25th through 27th, 2019 as MDA Fill the Boot <br />Days in the City of New Brighton <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Anthony S. Paetznick, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br /> <br />Recommendation: Read and adopt the proclamation designating June 25th through 27th, 2019 as <br />MDA Fill the Boot Days in the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Legislative History: n/a <br /> <br />Financial Impact: Since 2010, New Brighton Firefighters have raised $91,469.03 during their <br />participation in the annual MDA Fill the Boot Campaign. <br /> <br />Explanation: This year’s New Brighton Fill the Boot campaign officially begins June 25th. New <br />Brighton Firefighters volunteering their time with boots in hand will greet <br />motorists on the street, asking them to make a donation in support of MDA’s <br />mission to free individuals from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and <br />related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, <br />independence and life. Funds raised through 2019 New Brighton Fill the Boot <br />drive help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing <br />programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including <br />the MDA Care Center at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and Gillette <br />Children’s Specialty Hospital in St Paul. They also help send more than 160 local <br />kids to a life-changing experience in an environment without barriers at MDA <br />Summer Camp at Camp Courage, in Maple Lake MN - all at no cost to their <br />families. <br /> <br /> <br />________________________ <br />Anthony S.
