REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TEMPORARY
REGULATORY SIGNAGE MODIFICATIONS AND ROADWAY MARKINGS ON 25TH STREET NW
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL:
Ben Gozola – Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development
Anthony S. Paetznick – Director of Public Safety
CITY MANAGER APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______
Recommendation: Approve a Resolution ordering temporary regulatory signage modifications
and the installation of roadway markings on 25th Street NW adjacent to Irondale High School.
Legislative History: By code, all regulatory signs must be approved by Resolution of the City
Council.
Explanation: Staff from Public Safety and DCAD recently met with representatives from the
Mounds View Public School District to discuss interim bus parking conditions necessary due to the
on-going construction at Irondale High School. Typically, bussing operations are located within
the Irondale High School property; however, due to construction activity, this will not be feasible
for the 2019/2020 school year.
To accommodate this temporary issue, staff proposes the following modifications be made to area
regulatory markings for the 2019/2020 school year (see the attached exhibit):
1)Replace the existing “No Bus Parking, Loading, Or Unloading” and “2 Hour Parking 8:00
a.m. – 4:30 p.m. School Days” signs located along the south side of 25th Street NW with
“Bus Parking Only 8:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m. School Days”.
2)Replace the existing “2 Hour Parking 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. School Days” signs located
along the north side of 25th Street NW with “No Parking 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. School
Days”.
3)Install a temporary striped five-foot pedestrian walk lane located along the south side of
25th Street NW.
AGENDA ITEM: 5
AGENDA SECTION: VII (Consent)
REPORT DATE: August 20, 2019
MEETING DATE: August 27, 2019
