Improve quality of life for residents <br /> <br />Discussion among committee members ensued covering the following topics: <br /> Dog Park issue that arises: Long Lake was recently restored and these new natural areas cannot be <br />used for dog park or other development – Jones Lake was brought up as potential location <br /> Community Engagement: seek out those who are not attending. Trevor and/or Brad would be good <br />connections for setting up methods for getting input in a method that would be non-threatening <br /> Townsedge Terrace (adjacent to NB) had trail put in specifically to connect them to greater parks and <br />trails <br /> High aging-in-place population that provides strengths and weaknesses <br /> Propriety Park Examples: <br />o Looked at pickleball at Hidden Oaks but local residents opposed it and they were not developed <br />o Hansen Park had stormwater improvements but local residents feel this took away some of their park <br />amenities <br /> Review changes to Middle School, High School, Driftwood and others <br /> Noted to look at Crystal as a good facility for Seniors <br /> Park dedication dollars should be geared towards areas in need of improvements and areas of <br />growth/new populations <br /> Are there ways to do more with local clubs and organizations? Noted the canoeing and kayak clubs as <br />an example <br /> Food shelf currently operated by the school district <br /> Tennis Courts at Pike Lake, should there be a joint powers for use of those? <br /> There will be art incorporated more at the Community Center, as there is a mural that will be going on <br />the West Wall <br /> <br />Steering committee members identified the following stakeholders: <br /> Residents (New Brighton, Moundsview, Shoreview, St. Anthony, Arden Hills) <br /> City of New Brighton (Park & Rec, City Council, City Leadership Team, Inclusive Communities Task <br />Force, Economic Development) <br /> New Brighton Public Safety (Police & Fire Depts) <br /> Business Community / Chamber of Commerce <br /> Three Rivers Park District <br /> Rice Creek Watershed District <br /> Ramsey County (Long Lake Regional Park) <br /> Lions Club / Rotary Club <br /> School Districts (Moundsview, NB-St. Anthony, student councils, Global Academy charter school) <br /> Community Partners with Youth (CPY) <br /> Seniors – at all stages of life (St. Benedictine) <br /> New Brighton Area Historical Society (NBAHS) <br /> Area Churches <br /> Various Athletic Groups – Needs Assessment (PREC) <br /> Apartments / Multi-Family Housing – Connect with Brad – 30 complexes <br /> Farmers Market good location for engagement <br /> Vermont Park area <br /> Northeast NB <br /> <br />Next Steps <br />Amberg described the next steps of the process to committee members.
