<br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Accept the Rise Community Partner of the Year Award <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Jennifer Fink, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: Dean Lotter, City Manager <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Accept the Rise Community Partner of the Year Award <br /> <br />Legislative History: <br />February 26, 2019 – Council approved an amendment to the previous lease agreement signed on July <br />24, 2018, doubling the space for Rise. <br /> <br />July 24, 2018 – Council approved a five-year lease agreement with Rise for Room 208 at NBCC. The <br />lease terms are from September 10, 2018 – September 9, 2023. <br /> <br />April 24, 2018 – Council approved a Special Use Permit for Rise to open and operate adult day <br />programs within the New Brighton Community Center (NBCC). <br /> <br />April 17, 2018 – The Planning Commission considered the request and held a public hearing. No <br />persons provided testimony. The applicant answered questions from the Commission regarding Rise’s <br />program. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the request, consistent with <br />the staff recommendation. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />None <br /> <br />Explanation: <br />Rise operates an award winning adult day care program at the New Brighton Community Center. The <br />program operates in four YMCA/Community Centers through out the Twin Cities. Since the inception <br />of the program at the New Brighton Community Center, Rise, City Staff and the Council has had a rich <br />and productive relationship. The great relationship has led to the large success of the Adult Day <br />Program at the NBCC location, resulting in the program size tripling in just over a year. <br /> <br />In an effort to recognize the partnership between Rise and the City, on October 21 at the 8th annual <br />Celebrate Rise Gala, the City was awarded a Community Partner of the Year award.
