Councilmember Burg supported the Council reformulating a letter. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson questioned why the Council would sign this letter when things had already been agreed upon. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen commented there were a number of criteria that had to be met in order to allow residents <br />to stay until May. For this reason, he was asking the Council to support the letter from Home Line. He <br />discussed the missing money issues that had occurred at Pike Lake Apartments and how this was impacting <br />residents. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg indicated this was a County Attorney and landlord issue if fraud was occurring. <br />Paetznick explained housing was a civil matter and evictions were handled by the County Sheriff’s office. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg encouraged the residents dealing with eviction notices to contact the County Sheriff’s <br />office for assistance. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated the residents received a 60 day notice, which was extended another 30 days. She <br />explained QT has been working with the residents and indicated residents would have to continue to pay rent if <br />they wanted to remain in the building. She expressed concern with the fact the City was getting involved with <br />a private entity. She noted Massopust has spent countless hours lining up County services and coordinating <br />services with the school district for the residents of Pike Lake Apartments. She believed City staff and Council <br />has worked diligently on this tough situation. She questioned what more would be gained by the Council <br />signing a letter from Home Line. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg discussed how accurately the dollars have to be in order to close on a property. She <br />provided Councilmember Allen with the name and contact information for a resource available to individuals <br />facing homelessness. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen stated he received the request to sign the letter from the tenants to allow them to stay <br />through June 1st. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson suggested a letter from the City be drafted on behalf of the City Council. She asked that the <br />letter state the Council supports allowing these residents staying through May 31st. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg recommended the letter be drafted by staff and reviewed by the City Attorney in order to <br />be appropriate. Massopust reported he would have a letter drafted for the Council to review. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated she agreed this was a terrible situation, but stated there was only so much the City <br />Council could do. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg explained a letter drafted by the City would have more teeth than if the Council were to a <br />sign a letter drafted by another organization. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen commented his only concern was the delay or time it would take to have the letter <br />drafted. <br /> <br /> <br />Worksession adjourned at 6:15 pm <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted,
