He explained all public facilities would remain closed through May <br />4th but explained the City would continue to provide all essential services. He noted the license <br />bureau as completing limited work at this time through the drop box. He indicated staff was <br />discussing summer programming and would be making decisions in the coming days and <br />weeks. He noted the City’s communication channels would have further information on how <br />summer programming would proceed. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported she visited City Hall to purchase vehicle tabs. She thanked City <br />staff for working diligently through this crisis to continue to provide services for New Brighton <br />residents. She noted she received a call from the St. Paul Pioneer Press regarding her letter of <br />resignation and explained she shared why she chose to resign from her position. She stated <br />this was a difficult decision for her to make but indicated it was the right thing for her to do for <br />herself and her family at this time. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported he was happy the license bureau was still open for service. <br />He thanked all City staff members that were working so hard to keep all City services <br />functioning. He commented Midtown Village was taking appointments to view Pulte’s model <br />townhome. He thanked Councilmember Burg for serving as a mentor to him and for her <br />dedicated service to the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth encouraged all residents to get out and be active in the City’s parks <br />but to be mindful of gathering. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen thanked City staff for all of their tremendous efforts to keep the City <br />running through the crisis. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson encouraged all residents to be counted and to register their household for the <br />2020 Census. She explained Councilmember Burg has resigned which meant the City Council <br />would have an open seat beginning in May. She invited those interested in serving to visit the <br />City’s website to fill out an application. She explained interviews would be held at the April <br />28th Council worksession meeting for the open seat and an appointment would be made at the <br />April 28th City Council meeting. She explained the appointee would serve the City from May <br />1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson thanked the public for adhering to the social distancing and stay at home <br />requirements. She cautioned the public and noted the reopening of the community would be a <br />slow process. She reported all essential services were operational at this time and would <br />remain in place. She explained the Community Resource Group has made 2,500 calls to check <br />in with the City’s most vulnerable residents and stated a second round of calls would be made. <br />She encouraged residents to be honest with City staff if they were in need of assistance.
