knowledge this person has.
Councilmember Allen stated he supported candidate E as this person would bring something different to the
table and would serve as a valuable voice.
Mayor Johnson agreed with these two candidates and proposed candidate F be eliminated from consideration.
Councilmember Jacobsen supported this recommendation.
Mayor Johnson commented both candidates B and E were strong. She stated in the next nine months there was
a certain population that needed to be represented and she believed a stronger voice would be heard more
strongly from candidate E.
Councilmember Allen agreed with this recommendation.
Councilmember Jacobsen stated he was leaning towards candidate B as this individual would be able to hit the
ground running given this individuals high level of experience and background.
Councilmember Dunsworth disagreed stating both candidates have high levels of experience just in different
ways. She indicated experience comes in different forms and for this reason, she supported candidate E
moving forward with a caveat being set on expectations through onboarding. She explained this was a
significant time and the City needed a strong commitment, active engagement and be truly invested in this role
given the challenges that lie ahead of the City Council.
Councilmember Jacobsen stated his only concern with candidate E was the time commitment.
Mayor Johnson stated this was a valid point but after discussing this with the candidate she believed this was
not a concern. She understood candidate B brought some great financial background but indicated this was not
something that was missing from the Council at this time. She indicated both candidates had a strong
background, but she gave the benefit to candidate E based on the times the City is goin g through at this time.
In addition, it fits with some of the City’s strategic priorities.
Councilmember Jacobsen explained these were very good points and noted he could support the Council based
on these recommendations.
Mayor Johnson asked if the Council felt comfortable moving this to a vote at the City Council meeting. The
Council supported taking this action.
Mayor Johnson requested staff check in with candidate E prior to the City Council meeting to ensure this
candidate could move forward with the appointment. City Attorney Sonsalla reported the Council could move
forward with the appointment and staff would insert candidate E’s name into the Resolution for approval at the
regular City Council meeting.
Worksession adjourned at 6:01 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Terri Spangrud
City Clerk
