<br /> <br />Brighton before she was married. She moved away for a brief period and has since moved back. She reported <br />she was involved with her neighborhood and neighbors. She stated she was helpful with them, especially her <br />elderly neighbors. She reported she was very involved in planning the National Night Out event each year. <br />She indicated she wanted to get involved in Stockyard Days be was even more interested in serving with the <br />City. She explained she used to work with the Chamber of Commerce and was very familiar with task forces <br />and committees. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked Ms. Sauter what motivated her to apply to serve on a City Commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter stated she loved New Brighton, her community and her neighborhood. She explained she was not <br />as involved as she wanted to be and this was the reason she applied to serve as a Commission member. She <br />indicated she wanted to be more involved and to understand what was going on in the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked Ms. Sauter what view she has as the role of the Commissioner in the <br />Council/Commissioner relationship. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter stated the role of Commissioners was to listen and apply their backgrounds and education when <br />called upon. She believed there should be a team effort. She explained she liked to collaborate and get <br />involved with groups of folks toward a common goal. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen stated each Commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council <br />that comply with policies, rules or ordinances already adopted by the City Council. He asked Ms. Sauter what <br />she would do if she disagreed with a policy or ordinance already in place. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter indicated she would talk to the other Commissioners and see if there were other disagreements <br />going on. She stated a collective voice was always more powerful than one voice. She believed it came down <br />to teamwork and putting forth a constructive couple of sentences to have voices be heard. She explained it was <br />important that the City was doing the right thing for all in the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked Ms. Sauter based on how long she has lived in New Brighton and what she knew <br />about the community, what she sees as the City’s biggest challenge. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter stated she believed the biggest challenges were with the growth of the City, making sure folks that <br />live here were vested, and that voices were being heard. She understood change was hard and some residents <br />were having a hard time accepting the housing expansions in the community. She believed it was important to <br />educate residents as much as possible in order to get the facts out there. She commented growth was necessary <br />in order to keep the City vibrant and moving in the right direction. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked Ms. Sauter which Commission strikes her as the most interesting. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter indicated she was interested in all of the Commissions. She stated economic development was the <br />most interesting to her because she was a real estate agent. She explained public safety was another high <br />priority to her. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen thanked Ms. Sauter for her interest in serving and asked if she had any questions. <br /> <br />Ms. Sauter questioned what the timeline was for the Commission appointments. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br />appointments. She noted Ms. Sauter was the last interviewee and stated the Council would be discussing
