June 9, 2020 Page 1 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, <br />June 9, 2020 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic <br />this meeting was held virtually. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Johnson, Councilmembers Allen, Dunsworth, Fynewever, and Jacobsen <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Also Present: Devin Massopust-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney, Gina Smith-Interim <br />Finance Director, Ben Gozola-Assistant Director of Community Assets and <br />Development <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br /> <br />Pledge of Allegiance <br />Councilmember Jacobsen led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />Public Comment Forum <br />Mayor Johnson opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson reported Jenny Hendrickson at 115 Wedgewood Court submitted a comment <br />stating she was concerned with the recent events surrounding the death of George Floyd. She <br />encouraged the Public Safety Department and the City Council reconsider their policies and <br />procedures. Ms. Hendrickson suggested New Brighton become a My Brother’s Keeper <br />Community at www.obama.org. Ms. Hendrickson stated this organization would expand the <br />good work already being done in the City through community policing to ensure boys and girls <br />of color are offered the same opportunities as the white individuals in the community. Ms. <br />Hendrickson commented she wanted to see the community continue to work to become more <br />inclusive. Ms. Hendrickson’s second concern was with the COVID-19 pandemic noting she <br />was a health care worker.
