CARES Funding Update
Massopust provided the Council with an update on the CARES Funding. He reported the City received $1.7
million in CARES Act dollars on July 29th. He explained an internal CARES Committee was formed and has
been meeting weekly to better understand how these dollars can be spent. He reviewed a list of qualifying
expenses and noted the funds must be spent by November 15th. He stated staff and the Public Safety
Department has been tracking expenses surrounding PPE, payroll costs, built environment, and technology.
He commented there has also been a focus on community support with CARES dollars which would include
residential rent/mortgage relief and business assistance.
Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the City would be able to utilize the $1.7 million in CARES Act dollars of if
the majority of these funds would be given back to Ramsey County. Massopust reported the City was working
to create programs that would allow the City to utilize the dollars within New Brighton.
Worksession adjourned at 5:58 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Terri Spangrud
City Clerk
