<br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Authorize Advertisement for Bids for Demolition and Abatement of Existing <br />Properties in the Midtown Village Project Area. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & Development <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br /> <br />Recommendation: Authorize the Director of Community Assets and Development to advertise for bids. <br />If the developer wishes to coordinate and pay for the demolition/abatement themselves, then the City <br />would look to reduce the land sale price. <br /> <br />Legislative History: NA <br /> <br />Financial Impact: The total cost of the abatement and demolition is estimated at $800,000. These <br />costs will be paid for by a City internal loan, which will be reimbursed with land sale proceeds from <br />the developers. <br /> <br />Explanation: Plans are underway for significant re‐development work at the former New Brighton <br />Elementary now known as Midtown Village. This work in late summer/fall will allow development to <br />begin. Responsible Contractors will be provided environmental surveys and their results, and they will <br />also be allowed to conduct a site visit. The City owns a number of properties in the affected area; most <br />have buildings that need to be demolished.
