REQUEST FOR COMMISSION CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: Monuments at Entry Points / Monument Design Direction & Recommendations
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___

Recommendations: Listen to/view the information provided by staff at the meeting, and
make recommendations on:
1. Ranking Entry points by investment priority; and
2. Recommending the desired approach to monument signage

History: In 2015, the EDC and City Council identified “Place Making Initiatives” as
one of the Commission’s primary focal points moving forward. The
Commission reaffirmed this topic as a continued goal to address at the
meeting on August 7th.
Over the course of 2019, entry monuments and entry beautification has
been brought up by Council as a desired activity that keeps getting delayed
but must move forward at some point.

Summary: At the meeting on 10/2/19, staff will lead a discussion on the various main
entry points leading into the City worthy of potential entry
monumentation, and allow the EDC to rank each entry point in a priority
order for future Council consideration.
Staff will then give a presentation on entry monument features and styles,
and will seek feedback from the EDC on what the Commission would
recommend Council consider including in a future design (or designs if the
City wants to have multiple styles based on the importance of the entry
point).

Attachments: Entry Points Map showing and weighting every entry point into the City on a scale of
1 to 4 (1 being the highest traffic intersections, and 4 being our very low traffic entry
points).
Agenda Section: VI
Item: 2
Report Date: 09/24/19
Commission Meeting Date: 10/02/19
