<br /> <br />the recommendation of a traffic signal at Old Highway 8/14th Street is still valid, and whether <br />the configuration of Old Highway 8 could be modified. Staff commented further on the traffic <br />study results and findings. <br />Discussion included: <br /> The Commission supported the City working with CSI to create more use on this property. <br /> The Commission recommended that if CSI were to further expand that the parking lot be <br />placed along County Road E. <br /> The Commission recommended sidewalks and/or bike lanes be considered along this <br />corridor. <br /> The Commission supported this corridor remaining four lanes given the high level of traffic. <br />C. Ryan/Colliers Agreement Extension <br />Gozola reported staff is recommending the Commission discuss whether to extend the City’s <br />agreements with Ryan & Colliers, and provide a recommendation on the length for such if you <br />are recommending continuing the relationship. Staff is recommending an extension of both <br />agreements for an additional two-year period. <br />Discussion included: <br /> It was noted Ryan and Colliers still had a great deal of interest in developing the vacant <br />property on the NBE. <br />Motion by Commissioner Benke, seconded by Commissioner Carter to recommend the City <br />Council extend the existing agreement with Ryan Companies and Colliers regarding <br />development and brokerage services in the New Brighton Exchange. <br />Approved 8-0 <br />D. New Brighton’s Future in Economic Development Discussion <br />Gozola stated periodically it is important for the City to take a step back from current activities <br />and reassess whether it is on the correct path to achieve its goals and objectives. Several <br />definitions of economic development were offered and discussed in detail. With completion of <br />the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, this is an ideal time to revisit the Economic Development <br />Commission’s goals and objectives as outlined in code, within the new comp plan, and as <br />identified with the City Council in 2015. Staff reviewed all three areas of guidance with the <br />Commission and lead a discussion on where Commissioners would like to go moving forward. <br />Discussion included: <br /> Sense of Place and Community Outreach were important to the EDC. <br /> Competition with neighboring communities was discussed, along with the importance of <br />having healthy coordination regarding economic development with these neighboring <br />communities. <br /> A list of Ramsey County contacts was reviewed with the Commission.
