<br /> <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COMMISISON CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Comprehensive Parks Plan <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br /> <br />Recommendations: Review plan components in advance of the meeting, and if you have <br />questions, be ready to present such to the Director of Parks and <br />Recreation. <br /> Focus should be on how planned future park improvements can or should <br />play into our economic development efforts. <br /> <br />History: July 2019: City Council adopts the City’s new 2040 Comprehensive Plan <br />guiding overall City development for the next thirty years. Plan includes a <br />specific recommendation to undertake a separate and specific comp <br />planning process for the City’s park system. <br /> In anticipation of the approved Comp Plan and its recommendations, work <br />on the new Comprehensive Parks Plan was authorized in December of <br />2018. <br /> 2019: data collection & evaluation, community engagement, reports on <br />findings, and preliminary recommendations and concepts were drafted. <br /> Feb 2020: Park and Recreation Commission (PREC) reviews initial draft <br />plan <br /> March 2020: City Council reviews initial draft plan and calls for plan <br />finalization. Additional public review held throughout March. <br /> April – August 2020: Plan finalized for adoption based on PREC, Council, <br />and public feedback <br /> <br />Financial Impact: Significant. Our Parks and Community Center require substantial <br />investments to generate their substantial returns.
