Page 1

REQUEST FOR COMMISISON CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: Zoning Code Update
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___

Recommendations:  If interested, volunteer for future steering committee participation.

History:  February 2020: EDC reviews zoning code update annotated outline
 March 2020: COVID emerges and delays all non-essential projects
 September 2020: Council formally approves an annotated outline to guide
the Zoning Code Update project.

Financial Impact:  Significant. As an internally led project, the City will realize significant
savings on a long-overdue process that would otherwise cost tens of
thousands of dollars to complete. Furthermore, having a clear and concise
zoning ordinance will make New Brighton more attractive to existing and
prospective residents and businesses, thereby improving the City’s position
in relation to competing metropolitan cities..

Summary: Staff will take a few minutes to update the EDC on the status of the Zoning
Code update project, and seek volunteers for the project steering committee
to be assembled (ideally) yet this year.

Attachments: 1.
