Parks & Recreation Updates will be emailed around the 10th of each month. <br />Parks and Recreation Department Happenings <br />November, 2019 <br /> <br /> IMPROVING HEALTH <br /> 10 individuals participated in a First Aid/CPR/AED class, and learned basic first aid as well as how <br />to administer CPR. <br /> So far this month, over 62 individuals have visited Highview Middle School on Tuesday or <br />Thursday evenings for open pickleball. <br /> There are 47 participants enrolled in water aerobics courses on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and <br />Saturdays at Highview Middle School this month. <br /> A group of 15 seniors from NBCC traveled to White Bear Lake to see the High School production <br />of "Aida - A Timeless Love Story." <br /> <br /> PROTECTING NATURAL RESOURCES <br /> Parks Maintenance performed buckthorn removal throughout the City. <br /> Greens covers were installed at Brightwood Hills to protect the greens during the winter <br />months. Temporary holes are available. <br /> <br /> FOSTERING HEALTHY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT <br /> 14 youth are enrolled in soccer skill builder lessons at Highview Middle School. <br /> 11 youth are enrolled in basketball skill builder lessons at the New Brighton Community Center <br />on Sunday afternoons. <br /> 214 participants, ages 6 months to adults, are enrolled in swim lessons this month. <br /> 6 Irondale students created the beautiful winter arrangements placed around NBCC. Park <br />Maintenance gathered spruce, dogwood and birch trimmings used to make the displays. <br /> <br /> SUSTAINING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY <br /> Hockey boards at Sunny Square and Totem Pole were repaired in anticipation of the upcoming <br />skating season. <br /> Brightwood Hills was awarded the Minnesota PGA George Waters Grant for the third time. This <br />grant allowed 22 kids from Community Partners in Youth to experience the game of golf. <br /> <br /> SUPPORTING COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT <br /> The NBCC hosted the first ever Winter Farmers Market on November 13. Over 150 people <br />attended in the first hour, and over 500 for the entire event. <br /> New hockey boards have been installed at Hansen Park for the upcoming skating season. <br /> A new irrigation system was installed at Brightwood Hills. This new system is more efficient and <br />will use less water to irrigate the course, will be easier to program and can be operated <br />remotely. <br />
