Assessment of Need 12CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON PARK AND TRAIL SYSTEM MASTER PLAN - DRAFT <br />NON-CITY RECREATION AND SCHOOLS <br />Schools in New Brighton <br />The Mounds View School District <br />#621covers the cities of Mounds View, <br />Arden Hills, North Oaks, Roseville, Vadnais <br />Heights, Shoreview and New Brighton. <br />There are a number of public school sites <br />within city limits with a variety of recreation <br />offerings. Private schools include the Global <br />Academy and St John the Baptist Catholic <br />School. Refer to Map 2.4 for school property <br />locations and recreation offerings. <br />Pike Lake Kindergarten Center is a public <br />elementary school for solely kindergarten. <br />The property is adjacent to Freedom Park <br />along 14th Street NW in New Brighton. <br />The school shares both a playground <br />and parking lot with Freedom Park. The <br />playground was a joint project with the city. <br />The school property also has a ballfield, two <br />tennis courts, two basketball courts, tether- <br />ball and open field space. <br />Sunnyside Elementary School is a public <br />elementary school in the Mounds View <br />district serving grades 1-5. It has a large, <br />newer playground and basketball courts. <br />It is closest to Sunnyside Park in the north <br />section of New Brighton. <br />Bel Air Elementary School is a public <br />school in the Mounds View district serving <br />grades 1-5. The property is accessible to <br />the public during non-school hours and has <br />a large playground, a ballfield, a half-court <br />basketball court. It is closest to Hansen <br />Park. <br />Highview Middle School is a public school in <br />the Mounds View district serving grades 6-8 . <br />It includes a full size football/lacrosse/soccer <br />field with a walking track. It also has an indoor <br />swimming pool. The Parks and Recreation <br />department currently uses the indoor <br />swimming pool at Highview Middle School for <br />recreation programming, including swimming <br />lessons. <br />Irondale High School is a public high school <br />for grades 9 through 12 in the Mounds View <br />district. The property has indoor gyms, eight <br />tennis courts, football field with running track, <br />baseball field, two small ballfields and open <br />space. The school is adjacent to the Rice <br />Creek Regional North Trail corridor. <br />Basketball courts at Pike Lake Kindergarten Center, <br />which is adjacent to Freedom Park and shares a <br />playground. <br />Swimming lessons at Highview Middle School pool.
