Assessment of Need 48CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON PARK AND TRAIL SYSTEM MASTER PLAN - DRAFT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The parks and trails are for the community,
therefore community engagement is crucial in
order to learn what the community desires, what’s
working, what’s not working and what could the
city do to improve its parks and trails.
A comprehensive community engagement
process was undertaken as part of the park and
trail system plan. The public engagement method
included formal and informal settings, online and
in-person engagement, stakeholder interviews,
social media, and a steering committee to provide
feedback and decision making throughout the
planning process. Valuable and specific feedback
was gained and overall themes emerged which
informed the recommendations of this plan.
ONLINE ENGAGEMENT MAP & SURVEY
An online map, Social Pinpoint, was utilized to
reach a broader audience. The city promoted the
site on its website, on the park and recreation page,
as well as through city social media channels. The
online map was live from January 2019-October
2019. Specific comment responses are included in
the Appendix. An online survey was also developed
for information gathering purposes. The results of
the survey are included in the Appendix.
STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS
Planners and architects met with New Brighton
Community Center and Ramsey County Library
staff to discuss existing conditions, issues and
vision for the future. Park and recreation staff
members were also interviewed in-person about
programming, athletics, aquatics and park
properties.
