I:\Commissions - NEW FOLDER\PREC (Parks Recreation and Environmental Commission)\2020\Working Documents\2.5.2020\Parks Comp Plan UPdate.docx

Memo

To: Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Members
From: Jennifer Fink, Director of Parks and Recreation
Subject: Review of the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan
Date: January 30, 2020

In November of 2018, the City Council authorized the Parks and Recreation Department
to enter into an agreement with WSB, Inc. to create a 20 year Comprehensive Plan for
the Parks and Recreation system.

WSB was selected in December 2018 and since that time, has been working to create an
inclusive and comprehensive plan for the parks system. This plan ultimately will reside
as a part of the City’s overall 2040 comprehensive plan.

In September, WSB attended the Commission meeting and presented some of the initial
findings and themes from the engagement process.

The purpose of this meeting is for the Commissioners to review the draft plan prior to
the meeting, and hear from WSB how the plan addresses the themes that were
presented back in September. This will not be page for page review.

After this meeting the plan is presented to council, then opened for public comment. At
that time it will return to PREC on April 1, prior to going to Council for final approval.

The plan can be downloaded section by section – here. The entire plan is included in the
packet but is large.
