<br /> <br />to $10/round. She explained the City has canceled the Junior Program for this summer due <br />to social distancing concerns. She explained leagues or “grouped tee times” will move <br />forward on June 1st. She stated all playgrounds in the City were closed, tennis courts had <br />nets removed, basketball nets had been removed and soccer goals had been chained <br />together. She anticipated the tennis courts would reopen first. Further discussion ensued <br />regarding summer sports and aquatics. <br /> <br />Director Fink discussed how the farmer’s market would be modified for this summer to <br />become an essential grocery trip versus a social event. She described the great work that <br />was being done by the Community Resource Group and noted how this group was reaching <br />out to the most vulnerable residents in New Brighton. She reported her staff misses the <br />community. She reviewed the path the City would be following in order to safely reopen. <br />She commented safety would be of the utmost importance. Modified operations were <br />discussed in further detail and it was noted the Eagles Nest would be the last ame nity to <br />reopen. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> It was noted RISE has been closed since March 13th and would like to reopen as soon <br />as possible. <br /> Financial projections for the Parks and Recreation Department were discussed. <br /> The Commission thanked the Parks Department staff for their tremendous efforts <br />and for adjusting to the new environment post COVID-19. <br /> Chair Axberg encouraged residents to take advantage of the City’s trails system. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Emily Dunsworth <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. <br />She explained Nasreen Fynewever was appointed to the City Council to replace Mary Burg. <br />She reported Devin Massopust was appointed to the position of City Manager. She stated <br />Commission interviews would commence next week and appointments would be made in <br />late May. She indicated the Council would be doing a deep dive into the 2021 budget in the <br />coming months. She commented on the financial stability of the City and was confident the <br />staff and the Council would come up with strong solutions for the City. She thanked staff <br />for work diligently on behalf of the community as the City navigates through these <br />uncertain times. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg thanked Commissioner Fields and Commission Johnson for their service on the <br />Parks and Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink stated New Brighton’s license bureau was open for business.
