Executive Summary 2CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON PARK AND TRAIL SYSTEM MASTER PLAN - DRAFT <br />Planning Process <br />A year-long planning process began with a project start-up meeting with city staff to explore <br />goals, objectives and gather important city data. A critical piece of this plan was community <br />engagement, which started immediately and was used to raise awareness of the project in <br />order to understand the viewpoints of the residents to ensure the plan aligned with community <br />sentiment and identified needs. At this stage, input was solicited through various channels, <br />including an interactive online engagement platform, city social media, in-person interviews, and <br />attendance at various community events. <br />The use of a steering committee with community members that represented varying <br />organizations and viewpoints was included to provide additional community outreach, raise <br />project awareness, develop goals and policies, and guide the decision-making process. Data <br />collection and system evaluations were also conducted to understand the existing quality and <br />condition of the parks, trails and recreation within New Brighton. <br />The findings and analysis from the engagement and data collection process provided <br />guidance to the development of preliminary recommendations and concept plans in the draft <br />system master plan. The draft master plan went through a comment and review process for <br />further refinement and confirmation of priorities were evaluated for inclusion into the final <br />system master plan report, presented and adopted by the City of New Brighton on ____, <br />to be submitted to the Metropolitan Council as an amendment to the New Brighton 2040 <br />Comprehensive Plan. <br />Project Start- <br />Up <br />Inventory and <br />Data Collection <br />Community <br />Engagement <br />Analysis and Draft <br />Master Plan <br />Final Plan <br />Primary Goals and Initiatives <br />The following goals and initiatives, in alignment with the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, were <br />prepared as a guide for establishing both short and long term priorities for the parks, trails and <br />recreation programs to better meet the needs and desires of the community over the next 20 <br />years. <br />1.
