Assessment of Need 8CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON PARK AND TRAIL SYSTEM MASTER PLAN - DRAFT
DEMOGRAPHICS
According to the recent 2040 Comprehensive Plan,
New Brighton’s population is expected to grow over
the next few decades due to its prime location and
proximity to Minneapolis, major freeways and areas
of employment. However, due to lack of available
land, the growth rate is less than a suburban outlier
city.
Similar to other nationwide trends, a large portion
of the population is aging. 17% of the city’s
population is 64 and over, 25% is 0-19 years of
age and 20-64 is 58% of the population. Minority
populations are also growing at faster rates (based
on 2015 figures).
It is important in planning park and trail systems
that all populations, ages and incomes have
access to high quality park and open spaces within
a city.
Referring to Map 2.1 below, the areas with the
highest percentage of minority populations live
south of 694, near Hanson Park.
3.1 %
UNEMPLOYMENT
RATE
41.5
MEDIAN
AGE
$69,156MEDIAN
HOUSEHOLD
INCOME
Snapshot of New Brighton
22,787
POPULATION
8,915
NUMBER OF
HOUSEHOLDS
PERCENT (%)
MINORITY
POPULATION (2018)
Map 2.1: Percent Minority Population in New
Brighton
