<br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> The mental health benefits of children, adults and seniors participating in parks and <br />recreation programming was discussed. <br /> Staff reviewed program participation for 2020. <br /> The Commission supported the Parks and Recreation Department seeking additional <br />scholarship dollars through the levy. <br /> The Commission supported holding a golf tournament, a raffle, and seeking additional <br />donations from the public for scholarships. <br /> The Commission encouraged the City and staff to further promote the scholarship program, <br />along with the ability to donate to the scholarship program. <br /> Staff discussed how residents were deemed eligible for the scholarship program. <br /> The Commission suggested staff look into a “Round Up” and sponsorship option within its <br />registration software. <br /> The Commission encouraged staff to consider how the program is branded as this may <br />remove some of the stigma surrounding the assistance. <br /> The Commission commended staff on all of their efforts to expand the scholarship program. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Emily Dunsworth <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. She <br />reported the City Council approved the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan and the next step <br />would be to submit this document to the Met Council for inclusion in the 2040 Comp Plan. She <br />explained CTV North Suburbs has changed their name to Nine North. She commented on the Small <br />Business Assistance Program the Council had approved through CARES Act funding. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg explained she was proud of the fact the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan had <br />been approved by the City Council unanimously. She recognized Pat Tuma and thanked her for her <br />35 years of dedicated service to the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink commented further on the personnel changes that have occurred with the Parks and <br />Recreation Department. She explained the Eagle’s Nest still remains closed. She noted the Mission <br />Possible kids would be utilizing the Eagle’s Nest one day a week this winter. She reported she would <br />continue to evaluate parks programming options for the City to see if they can be pursued in a safe <br />manner. She indicated the Parks and Recreation Department had three electro-magnetic sprayers to <br />assist with the cleaning protocols the City had in place. She discussed the fall programming brochure <br />that was sent out to residents. She stated the City’s website had the most up to date information <br />regarding City programming. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />VII.
