This second phase will include preparation of <br />the remaining land south of Highway 8 for development, installation of public <br />improvements, and construction of the affordable multifamily workforce housing <br />building (to be called Brighton Oaks). Preliminary approval for this development was <br />granted by the City Council on May 28th, 2019. <br /> <br />History / <br />Timeline: <br /> Dates Unknown: City acquires the PW materials storage site, the PW facilities site, <br />and 609 Old Highway 8 (all have been City owned for many, many, years) <br /> ≈ 1939: original New Brighton Elementary School constructed <br /> ≈ 1978: School converted into a “community resource center” providing general <br />services to the public and local seniors. <br /> ≈ 1983: School district sells property to the Korean United Methodist Church <br /> ≈ 2017: City acquires 629 Old Highway 8 on the open market at fair market value <br /> 2017: City acquires the former New Brighton Elementary School/Korean United <br />Methodist Church site on the open market at fair market value <br /> 2019: City acquires 581 Old Highway 8 on the open market at fair market value <br /> Neighborhood Meeting on conceptual plan held on 10/25/18 <br /> Conditional rezoning of parcels to R-3B recommended for approval by the Planning <br />Commission on 1/15/19, and approved by the City Council on 1/22/19 <br /> Planning Commission review & public hearing of Preliminary PRD held on 5/21/19 <br /> City Council approval of Preliminary PRD on 5/28/19 <br /> City Council approval of Final PRD Phase I on 7/23/19 <br />
