<br /> <br />occurred in 2020 and noted this was concerning. He reminded the public to close overhead <br />garage doors and to remove valuables from vehicles. He stated September was National <br />Preparedness Month. He encouraged residents to have a plan and have a kit in place in the <br />event of an emergency. He reported National Night Out would be held on Tuesday, October <br />6th and would look much different this year. He explained the Public Safety Department <br />would be engaging neighborhoods by hosting virtual events. He indicated staff was still <br />working on how to involve the public in National Night Out and further details would be <br />forwarded to the public in the coming weeks. He reported the three School Resource Officers <br />were excited to be transitioning to hybrid learning next Monday. <br /> <br />C. City Council Update – Graeme Allen, Councilmember <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. He <br />stated the City Council had approved a residential and small business grant program. He <br />encouraged residents and business owners to look into this program to potentially receive <br />rental and COVID-19 resources. He explained businesses could receive up to $10,000 in <br />grant assistance. He estimated 60 individuals could be helped through this program. He <br />reported the applications for this program would be available in multiple languages. He <br />encouraged the Commission to get the word out on this program. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen stated the Council has discussed the preliminary 2021 budget and tax <br />levy. He explained the City Council was working to keep new expenditures down and the <br />potential tax levy increase was only 2%. He indicated he was proud of the fact the Council <br />had included a Diversity staffing position for half of 2021 in the budget. He reported the final <br />budget would be approved in December. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen commented the City was updating its Zoning Code. He explained this <br />was a large project that would assist in overhauling the City’s outdated code language, while <br />also assist in cleaning up the document. He discussed the grant the City received from <br />Ramsey County and noted these funds would assist with cleaning up the Micom building <br />along Old Highway 8. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen stated he was happy to report the Mounds View School District had <br />reached an agreement with the NBDPS and the three school resource officers were approved. <br />He described the services these officers would be completing on behalf of the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen reported clean up day would be held on Saturday, September 19th at <br />the Public Works Building from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. <br /> <br />VII.
