I:\Council - NEW FOLDER\2019\Report Drafts and Working Documents\Community Dev ans Assets\VII_6 Consideration Purchase of Salt Building.docx

REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDER PURCHASE OF SALT BUILDING
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting – Dir. of Comm. Assets/ Development
CITY MANAGER APPROVAL:

No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______

Recommendation: Approve Quote ($123,819) from Legacy Building Solutions for the purchase of
a 60’ wide by 80’ long salt storage building.

Legislative History: NA

Explanation: Construction of a 154‐unit affordable family apartment building has begun just north
of the Public Works Maintenance Shop. The proposed grading, utility and future parking plans
require that the existing Salt Storage Building is moved or replaced. The existing building supplier
is no longer in business. City staff worked with Legacy Building Solutions to determine if the
building would be re‐used or if it was necessary to procure a new building. Following discussions
with Legacy, Dominium and PW staff, it was determined that a smaller footprint building would
be the best solution for future site challenges and turning movements of existing PW equipment.
Dominium provided funding for the costs for the building when they closed on the land to the
north. Additionally, Dominium has agreed to pay for the demolition of the existing salt shed and
providing the appropriate footings and foundation for the new facility.

Financial Impact: Closing costs with Dominium included this expense.

________________________________
Craig Schlichting, P.E.
Director of Community Assets and Development

Attachments:
Plans
Proposal
AGENDA SECTION: Consent
REPORT DATE: January 23, 2020
MEETING DATE: January 28, 2019
