REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consider Approval of a Resolution seeking funding for redevelopment of the
former Micom site at 475/487 Old Highway 8
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director Community Assets & Development
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___
15.99 Deadline: none
Recommendations: Approval of three resolutions authorizing staff and TGLCD, LLC; to pursue
grant dollars for the clean up and redevelopment of the former Micom site
along Old Highway 8.
Legislative History: None
Financial Impact: None. Any local match dollars not obtained in this funding effort will be
paid by the developer.
Summary: TGLDC, LLC (an entity of Hillcrest Development, LLLP) has purchased the
former Micom site and hopes to secure grant funding to assist with
environmental clean-up challenges. TGLDC is requesting to once again
partner with the City of New Brighton to seek environmental assistance
grants from the Metropolitan Council Tax Base Revitalization Account, and
the Ramsey County Environmental Response Fund. A joint application
seeking funding from these sources was previously submitted in late 2019,
but the project was not selected for funding. Given that outcome, we have
completed further work on the application in the hopes that it will fair better
in the competitive selection process. We believe these updates make it a
strong candidate for funding in the upcoming cycle. Grant applications are
due May 1, 2020. Any funding received through this process will be added to
the grant funding we did successfully win last year through both DEED and
Ramsey County.
Agenda Section: VII
Item: 5
Report Date: 4/8/20
Council Meeting Date: 4/14/20
